Pub Accessibility

Accessible

To register a “yes” in the Disabled access box means that those with the highest level of mobility impairment, such as a non-ambulant wheelchair user, can get into the pub without assistance and that there is a toilet that they can access. This does not have to be a wheelchair users’ only toilet or even wheelchair users and baby changing toilet. At least one entrance should be level or with a small lip, say up to 3 cms, but that should be mentioned in the description.

Disabled access comments box

Note – some ‘disabled users only’ toilets may be locked and require a standard RADAR key. Some disabled people carry one. A key may be kept behind the bar. Put an entry in the Disabled access comments box of “RADAR key toilet”.

You can still put positive comments in that box and in the description. Such as –

Level access to bars with no steps at all entrances

Level access to bars with no steps just from one entrance (specify which entrance in comment)

No narrow doors or passages restricting wheelchair access

The rear entrance from the car park has a 3cm step.

Accessible with assistance

This registers a “no” in the Disabled access box but warrants an entry in the Disabled access comments box, such as “Accessible with assistance” followed by

Examples of entries include –

Entry ramp available from bar staff

One X cms step at entrance

A steep temporary ramp is available from the bar, but a companion would need to organise the ramp with bar staff.

Wheelchair access is available via the staff only entrance which a companion would need to organise.

Not accessible without full or limited mobility

This registers a “no” in the Disabled access box but still warrants an entry in the Disabled access comments box, such as “Accessible to those with limited mobility” followed by the reason and any positive aspects. Such as -

The only entrance has large step down into the bar area (with no grab rails).

Level entrance but the toilets are down two flights of stairs.

Three steps into the only entrance. Accessible toilet on ground floor.
