CAMRA Gala Presentation 2016
At CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, we always try to make a point of saying “well done” to pubs, breweries and people who’ve done something special. Last year the local Reading & Mid Berks branch of CAMRA decided to bring them all together at a Gala Presentation evening. There we made awards for not just the normal Pub and Club of the year and beers of the festival breweries, but also some special recognition certificates as well.
Said Brian Jones, one of the event organisers, “The event last September at the Castle Tap was so successful, we’ve decided to repeat the occasion. This year the venue is The Eldon Arms who, with The Retreat, will be receiving a special Collaboration award for their jointly run Village Music Festival. The date set is Thursday 8th September and, from 8pm, publicans and brewers will be mixing with their public, ready to receive their awards.”
A new award this year goes to The Bell at Aldworth. This comes from those who worked their way around the Ale Trail during February, April and March – their feedback making The Bell the Outstanding Pub of the 2016 Reading & Mid Berks Ale Trail.
All CAMRA branches rely heavily on their local volunteers. This year the branch has decided to make an award to one volunteer who has given selflessly of his time to further the aims and objectives of the Campaign for Real Ale.
The event is open to everybody and, with entry being free, it’s all set to be a great evening. The organisers hope that a good number of the nearly fourteen hundred local CAMRA members will join in the celebrations, and that all local pub-goers enjoy the chance to take part in this special event.
